In The Medium is the Massage, Marshall McLuhan includes a quote from A.N. Whitehead that touches on ideas of clarity and “cloaking the perplexities of fact.” In response to this, each of the images in my collection has been blurred to obscure any sense of clarity and range from mildly recognizable to entirely distorted. The most recognizable image is of a transmission tower, mirroring the ideas of electric communication, overwhelming technology, and change. I also included an image of multiple separated buildings, representing the ideas of division and structure. The final swirling image is the “buzzing.” Originally an image of a crowd of people, I transformed it into nothing more than an obscure form that melds all of us together.
